USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service updated its New World Screwworm Response Playbook, a guide designed to support response efforts should the pest be found in the U.S.
The updated playbook includes strategies for responders, including how to coordinate response operations, reduce spread, manage the pest in infected animals, implement fly surveillance and control measures, maintain business and support efficient information flow.
The draft playbook was released in October and was updated following input from state animal health officials and agriculture stakeholders. The agency will revise the playbook as plans evolve.
