NASA, USDA advance data modernization plan

USDA and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Oct. 24 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance USDA’s data modernization plan.

“Effective immediately, both Departments will work together to guide cooperation on integrating Earth observation, geospatial analytics, and statistical methodologies in support of agricultural statistics and aligned with USDA’s ongoing data and technology modernization efforts,” USDA said.

The scope of the MOU includes agricultural statistics, remote sensing science, modeling, geospatial data engineering and super intelligence/machine learning, among others.

The effort supports the USDA Data Modernization Plan released in September to help improve the timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of agricultural data for American producers.
