USDA opens Watershed Research Center

Lance Cheung

USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) announced the opening of the Southwest Watershed Research Center in Tucson, AZ, to support research on water, plants and soil.

The 15,650-square-foot complex includes laboratories and workspaces for ARS and University of Arizona researchers. Scientists will study weather patterns, water movement and soil erosion in semiarid regions to develop tools farmers and ranchers can use to manage land and water.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the facility will help researchers address challenges facing Southwest producers. The work aims to translate research findings into practices that support production and conserve water resources.
