USDA opened the fourth phase of its Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program, which provides grants to help processors expand their capacity.
USDA Rural Development said the program was designed to encourage competition and sustainable growth in the meat processing sector, and to help improve supply chain resiliency.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must primarily process cattle, but funds or equipment may be used for processing meat and poultry at the facility. Funding is available for very small and small processors, and intermediate processors.
Applications are open through Aug. 7. More details may be found at grants.gov.
