The Center for Biological Diversity and Western Watersheds Project recently filed a motion to intervene in and dismiss a lawsuit seeking affirmation of the Trump administration’s greater sage-grouse management plan in Wyoming.
“We’re intervening because when both sides of a lawsuit want the same outcome, nobody is speaking up for greater sage grouse and the lands they need to survive,” said Randi Spivak, public lands policy director at the Center for Biological Diversity.
The lawsuit, brought by Western Energy Alliance and the state of Wyoming against the Department of the Interior, seeks confirmation that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) complied with the law in its sage grouse plan for Wyoming.
“Challenges have created recurring legal doubt as to whether the plans will remain in effect, be vacated, or be replaced, notwithstanding BLM’s repeated findings of statutory compliance,” the December 2025 lawsuit read. “This uncertainty in turn results in leasing uncertainty and permitting uncertainty through (resource management plans), lease sale, and permitting related legal challenges.”
