Tyson Foods is auctioning equipment from its former Emporia, KS, beef plant while disputing Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins’ claim that recently shuttered facilities would only be sold to American buyers.
More than 600 items from the Emporia facility, which closed in February 2025, will be offered in an online auction Sept. 4-15, WATTPoultry reported. Operations were consolidated at Tyson’s Holcomb, KS, plant. The closure is part of a restructuring that includes shuttering plants in Lexington, NE; Joslin, IL; and Eagle Mountain, UT, and selling a Pasco, WA, facility.
Rollins told reporters at the Farm Progress Show that Tyson CEO Donnie King had verbally committed to selling plants to American-owned companies or producers. A Tyson spokesperson disputed that characterization, saying its position remains unchanged, and it will consider domestic or foreign buyers.
