The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) is launching an effort to improve the accuracy of EPDs for imported Angus cattle by addressing data challenges associated with animals registered in multiple breed associations.
Working with the Canadian Angus Association and International Genetic Solutions, RAAA will focus on ensuring each animal has a single, unique identifier and is correctly linked to its complete contemporary group. Association officials say the project is a response to breeder concerns about inconsistent genetic predictions, and aims to strengthen confidence in evaluation results.
Breeders are encouraged to submit examples of questionable EPDs to RAAA Director of Breed Improvement Larry Keenan to help identify areas needing improvement.
