Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is monitoring four reproducing gray wolf packs in northwest Colorado as pups begin moving beyond their den areas.

At about four months old, the pups are traveling short distances with pack members and gathering at rendezvous sites where adults bring them food, the agency said. Biologists are using GPS collars and game cameras to track pack composition, movements and minimum pup numbers.

CPW’s August activity map shows collared wolves ranging across watersheds in northwest and north-central Colorado. However, the map only indicates that a collared wolf entered a watershed between July 21 and Aug. 25, not that wolves were present throughout the entire area.
