Weather halts Nebraska beef plants

WLJ
Jan. 25, 2018 1 minute read

Beef packing and processing plants closed temporarily on Jan. 22 because of weather conditions in Nebraska. A winter storm swept across the state promoting closures to ensure the safety of workers, cattle haulers and truck drivers who move finished goods. April Nelson of Cargill confirmed the beef harvest facility at Schuyler, NE, and the cooked meats plant at Columbus, NE, closed on Monday, but were reopened on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The plants will operate on Saturday, Jan. 27 to make up for lost production, according to Nelson. Tyson Fresh Meats plants in Dakota City, NE, and Storm Lake, IA, were also closed on Jan. 22 and reopened on Tuesday. — WLJ
