The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued updated labeling guidance to support implementation of the voluntary “Product of USA” labeling standard that will be effective beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
The guidance provides clarity on eligibility, documentation and compliance for establishments choosing to use the claim. The label may only be used on FSIS-regulated products derived from animals that were born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the U.S.
The U.S. Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) applauded the guidance, writing in a Facebook post, “USCA was at the forefront of pushing for a real, common-sense definition, so consumers aren’t left guessing and U.S. producers aren’t competing with fuzzy labels.”
