SUPERIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION

All classes sold steady to higher than the last test at Superior Livestock Auction’s Oct. 15 video auction, where producers offered 27,947 head into a market with stronger overall demand than two weeks earlier.

Cattle were consigned from 26 states and drew 78 successful buyers. Cattle sold on contract to deliver immediately through April 2027.

Southern feeders led the advance, selling steady to $20/cwt higher than the last offering. A set of 840-pound feeder steers out of Oklahoma brought $337/cwt, or approximately $2,831 a head. Weaned program calves drew strong demand, with a set of 500-lb. weaned steers out of Oregon bringing $500/cwt, or approximately $2,500 a head. Beef-dairy cross cattle sold steady with the last offering.

USDA reported demand good and October feeder cattle futures closing $3 higher than at Superior’s Oct. 1 auction.

“Moisture across a majority of the wheat pasture country and California pasture land fueled a much stronger demand for grazing weight cattle in all regions,” said Ralph Wade, auctioneer for Superior Livestock Auction.

Recent rainfall improved conditions across the Southern Plains, producers are beginning to see wheat come up and grass pastures are greening again. The futures board, fall moisture and the supply of cattle still to come will guide the market over the next 30 days.
