McDonald’s spends $100M to win customers back

McDonald’s is investing $100 million in efforts to win customers back after an E. coli outbreak rocked sales and traffic.

The outbreak, now linked to Quarter Pounder slivered onions sourced from Colorado-based Taylor Farms, sickened more than 100 people in 14 states and resulted in at least one death. Of the $100 million, $65 million will be allocated to franchisees that were impacted the most by the outbreak. The remaining $35 million will go toward marketing efforts.

“We’re going to do what we need to do to make sure we get the momentum back in the business,” said CEO Chris Kempczinski in an earnings call.
