JBS has released its 2025 Sustainability Report alongside a revised climate strategy that replaces the company’s 2040 net-zero target with a greater emphasis on measurable operational goals.
The report highlights the company’s progress in reducing emissions, conserving water, cutting waste, expanding renewable energy use and strengthening food safety efforts. Since 2020, the company has invested nearly $200 million in projects aimed at reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions and reported an 18.8% reduction in emissions intensity across JBS operations and 24.4% at Pilgrim’s. JBS also reported a 9.7% reduction in water use, a 25.8% decline in landfill waste and renewable energy accounting for 31.3% of global energy use in 2025.
Chief Sustainability Officer Jason Weller said the company concluded its 2040 net-zero goal was not achievable because of the challenges of measuring and reducing emissions across hundreds of thousands of independent producers in multiple countries. Instead, JBS will focus on reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and 70% by 2050 from a 2019 baseline, with annual reporting and third-party verification.
