Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) removed an uncollared female yearling from the One Ear Pack in Grand County Sept. 9 after continued livestock losses.
CPW said it confirmed seven additional depredations after removing another yearling from the pack on Aug. 4, despite producers using non-lethal measures. The agency said it took the latest action in consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and in accordance with federal requirements.
Environmental groups criticized the decision, arguing that removing wolves has not stopped conflicts within the pack. The groups asserted that continued depredations show lethal control is ineffective and Colorado’s small wolf population cannot sustain continued removals.
