Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) completed two lethal wolf removals Sept. 7 following livestock depredations in Pitkin and Rio Blanco counties.
CPW removed an uncollared male yearling from the Copper Creek Pack in Pitkin County after four confirmed depredations occurred in July, August and September. The agency also removed an uncollared male yearling from the Three Creeks Pack following four confirmed depredations in Rio Blanco County during August and September.
CPW said both packs met its definition of chronic depredation despite producers using nonlethal measures, including range riders, cameras, human presence and hazing. CPW said it conducted the removals in consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
