Friday markets 

Most of the market was closed today in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday. 

Cash trade for the day totaled about 1,800 head. Live steers sold for $256, and dressed steers sold for $405. Total cash trade for the week through Friday afternoon was about 5,000 head. 

Slaughter for the day is estimated at 95,000 head, on pace with a week earlier. With tomorrow’s slaughter expected at 5,000 head, total slaughter for the week is projected at 526,000 head, compared to 524,000 head a week earlier. 

Boxed beef prices were mixed on 80 loads. The Choice cutout gained 45 cents to close at $394.37, and the Select cutout lost $2.67 to close at $372.08. — Anna Miller Fortozo, WLJ managing editor
