The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Oct. 2 that it concluded its investigation into a Cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce Taylor Farms de Mexico sourced from central Mexico.
The agency traced the lettuce to several farms and a processing facility in Mexico and conducted inspections with Mexican officials. Two environmental samples tested positive for Cyclospora. One came from a wastewater tank at the processing facility and another from a drainage ditch at a lettuce farm.
FDA said there is not enough evidence to determine exactly how contamination occurred, but the findings support the outbreak’s link to the recalled lettuce. The agency said all affected lettuce is believed to be off the market.
