The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 10 issued an Emergency Use Authorization for F10 Antiseptic Wound Spray with Insecticide for the prevention and treatment of New World Screwworm (NWS) infestations.
The spray contains benzalkonium chloride, polyhexanide and cypermethrin, and is the first product authorized by FDA to be used for species outside of cattle, dogs and cats.
The spray may be effective for cattle, horses, minor species of hoof stock (e.g., sheep, goats, deer), raptors and other wild birds, pet birds and captive wild, exotic and zoo mammals, but may not be used for domestic cats or dogs.
Livestock have a withdrawal period of 30 days prior to slaughter. The spray is available over the counter without a prescription.
