The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a temporary emergency fuel waiver on Aug. 20 in an effort to lower gasoline prices and increase the country’s gasoline supply.
Beginning Sept. 1, the waiver will allow the sale of E10, gasoline blended with 10% ethanol, at a higher Reid vapor pressure.
“This action will increase the domestic gasoline supply by hundreds of thousands of barrels per day by effectively ending the summer-blend gasoline requirement early,” according to EPA.
The waiver will remain through the end of the summer control season on Sept. 15, and also waives state level controls in Texas, Arizona and California that extend beyond Sept. 15 for the maximum period of 20 days.
