The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is seeking public comment on draft environmental assessment and draft compatibility determination for livestock grazing at Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge in northeast Nevada.
“As proposed, grazing is intended to reduce excessive vegetation biomass and improve structural diversity to improve habitat suitability for wildlife,” USFWS said.
The agency is proposing to offer grazing within 414 acres of refuge meadow from Aug. 1 to Dec. 31, with operators using virtual fencing and temporary fencing to contain cattle. Animal unit months would be determined annually.
Comments may be submitted by Sept. 4 to FW8PlanComments@fws.gov.
