Colorado Parks and Wildlife lethally removed an uncollared male yearling wolf in Grand County, CO, on Aug. 4.
The agency determined lethal removal was necessary after confirming four depredation events involving four calves. The first depredation was confirmed on June 29 in Jackson County and additional depredations were confirmed on July 26, July 31 and Aug. 1 in Grand County.
Depredations occurred despite producers using non-lethal conflict minimization efforts, the agency said.
“Unfortunately after a thorough review, the determination of chronic depredation was made in this case,” said CPW Director Laura Clellan. “Our staff will continue to work diligently with willing producers to deploy all reasonable non-lethal tools and methods in order to minimize the need for removals.”
