Employees at Cargill’s Fort Morgan, CO, beef plant have rejected the company’s latest contract offer. A lockout has been in place at the beef facility since May 20, following unresolved collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
“We are disappointed that employees voted against the union-recommended settlement,” Cargill said in a statement. “We are evaluating next steps and options and remain open to considering proposals from the union that align with the economic framework previously discussed.”
Teamsters Local 455, the representing union, told the company the settlement fell short of ratification by 25 votes.
“Our members have spoken,” a union spokesperson told local outlet 9News. “They’re demanding more, and we expect to get back to the bargaining table as soon as possible.”
In June, the union filed unfair labor practice charges against Cargill, alleging the company violated federal labor law.
