On Feb. 14, Zoetis announced that the USDA, through its Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB), issued a conditional license for its highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) vaccine, H5N2 subtype, killed virus, specifically for use in chickens.

This conditional license was granted after demonstrating the vaccine’s safety, purity and reasonable efficacy through serology data. Since February 2022, over 150 million U.S. birds have been impacted by HPAI. Conditional licenses are typically issued for emergencies and are renewable at the CVB’s discretion.
