In a March 2 letter to constituents, Montana Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-01) announced he will not seek reelection at the end of his fourth term.
Zinke reflected on a career of public service that included roles as a U.S. Navy SEAL commander, Montana state senator, member of Congress and secretary of the Interior. He highlighted efforts to expand American energy production, reduce regulations and taxes, pass the Great American Outdoors Act and secure funding for infrastructure and conservation projects across Montana.
Zinke said the decision was influenced partly by his long-standing belief in term limits but also by ongoing health challenges tied to injuries from his military service. He explained that upcoming surgeries and recovery time would make it difficult to maintain full representation for Montana in Congress.
