On May 30, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Director Kelly Susewind opted against authorizing lethal removal of wolves from the Sherman pack in Ferry County, despite four confirmed cattle depredation events since May 15.

These attacks resulted in one calf death and four injuries. Before the completion of the initial investigation, a livestock producer fatally shot a male wolf that was reportedly chasing cattle. While the first three depredations were linked to the Sherman pack, a fourth incident, investigated on May 26, presented uncertainty about which wolves were responsible. No recent wolf activity has been detected through monitoring or the use of trail cameras.

Due to the lack of conclusive evidence, WDFW will continue to gather information before taking further management action.
