The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) on July 16 finalized its rule downlisting the razorback sucker from endangered to threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
The downlisting is accompanied by a 4(d) rule that allows limited take of the fish for conservation measures.
The species is found in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
Although the sucker was downlisted, USFWS noted the species still faces future challenges, including altered river flows, changes in water quality and quantity, drought and predation by nonnative species.
