Klamath Drainage District (KDD) patrons met the district’s 2026 land-idling goal for the Klamath Project Drought Response Agency’s reduced irrigation demand programs.
In April, KDD Manager Scott White recommended landowners in the district evaluate their 2026 farm plans and consider idling as many acres as possible due to water shortages.
Klamath Water Users Association Executive Director Elizabeth Nielsen had indicated that 40,000-50,000 acres within the Klamath Project need to be idled for 2026.
While Scott’s idling goal was 10,000 acres, more than 11,000 acres were submitted, nearly half of the district’s land eligible for the program.
“I’m proud of the district’s landowners for stepping up to the plate and taking the action needed to help stretch water for all of the Klamath Project in a tight water year,” White said.
