Applications for USDA’s new Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers (SPUR) program to provide temporary support for beef processing establishments were set to be emailed to eligible establishments the second week of August.
The SPUR program will provide up to $500 million in payments to “support stronger and more stable market opportunities for American ranchers,” according to USDA.
Beginning Aug. 10, USDA was set to begin emailing partially prefilled applications to eligible processing establishments. Completed applications must be submitted by Sept. 11.
Eligible establishments must be federally inspected or a participant in the Talmadge-Aiken Cooperative Inspection Program or the Cooperative Interstate Shipment Program. They must also be operational at the time of SPUR application. University, state-owned entities and the Big Four processing entities are ineligible for the program.
