Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced a $14.5 million increase in reimbursements to support state-run meat and poultry inspection programs.
Rollins emphasized the importance of strong federal-state partnerships in delivering effective food inspections.
Agricultural leaders, including National Association of State Departments of Agriculture CEO Ted McKinney, praised the move, noting it supports small and mid-sized producers and processors, strengthens local food systems and enhances consumer safety.
According to the USDA, the funding increase also aligns with similar support included in the president’s budget and is crucial for maintaining a resilient and efficient food processing system nationwide.
