Story Short: JBS-owned Planterra opens plant

Planterra Foods, a plant-based protein company owned by JBS S.A., has started its operations at a former Smithfield Foods plant in Denver, CO.

The 189,000 square foot facility will have the capacity to manufacture 40-45 million pounds under the Ozo brand.

The 32-foot ceiling height needed for the specialized production equipment Planterra uses will allow the plant to change product types on the same production line. The company expects to employ 200 people at full capacity.

“We knew Colorado was the perfect place to begin and grow this company, and with our incredible team of passionate, problem-solving food lovers, I’m confident that Planterra will continue to grow the world of plant-based with the best tasting foods in the market,” said CEO Darcey Macken in a statement.
