Story Short: AFBF on supply chain issues

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) recently sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack addressing supply chain issues facing farmers and ranchers.

“Supplies of farm inputs like crop protectants, fertilizers and seeds have been difficult to obtain and expensive to purchase,” wrote AFBF President Zippy Duvall.

“Highway transportation of farm products and supplies is more expensive and less available today than pre-pandemic levels, and timely maritime transport of value-added agricultural exports is frustrated, at best.”

AFBF asks the USDA to address livestock markets and processing capacity; farm input costs and availability; transportation flexibility; rail competition; port backlogs; agricultural labor shortage; and trade, among the recommendations in the letter.
