South Dakota House Bill (HB) 1109 would prohibit the manufacture, sale or distribution of cell-cultured meat in the state.

The bill was introduced by Rep. John Sjaarda (R-SD-02) and would make it a misdemeanor to sell or distribute lab-grown meat. The House of Representatives passed the bill on a 42-26 vote and sent the bill to the Senate. On Feb. 11, Gov. Larry Rhoden (R) signed HB 1022 into law, which prohibits the misbranding of any cell-cultured protein product.
