USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins recently penned a letter to U.S. Forest Service grazing permittees, urging them to utilize the information contained in a June grazing directive.

Rollins encourages ranchers to review the grazing directive, which provides policy direction for implementation of the 2025 Beef Plan released last October, and the Advancing Grazing on Forest Service and BLM Lands Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) released in March.

The directive includes items such as restoring at least 500,000 head months across National Forest System Lands within two years, a policy of no net loss animal unit months, making vacant and closed allotments available for grazing, improving wildlife planning and recovery, improving National Environmental Policy Act efficiencies and improving coordination with ranchers.

“The vision set forth in the (1) 2025 Beef Plan, (2) MOU, and (3) Grazing Directive complement this Administration’s policy to streamline and expand livestock grazing on federal lands, elevate grazing as an Administration priority, and strengthen support for America’s ranchers,” the letter read.
