The Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition on Oct. 21 requesting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service protect the Cascade red fox under the Endangered Species Act.
The group said the Washington state fox is threatened by predation and disease, human development, hunting and trapping, and poisoning.
“For these foxes to have any future, we have to curb greenhouse gas pollution and protect more of the natural world, not only for their sake but for ours,” said Noah Greenwald of the Center.
