Following JBS Foods’ announcement that it will close a processing plant in Pennsylvania and a packing facility in Tennessee, affecting nearly 1,700 employees, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has proposed leasing the facilities and converting them into museums focused on animal welfare and the meat industry.
In a letter to JBS CEO Wesley Batista Filho, the organization said the museums could employ some displaced workers while displaying equipment used in meat processing, including bone saws, shackles and captive bolt guns. PETA said the exhibits would educate visitors about the behavior and experiences of livestock and encourage adoption of a vegan diet.
