An Oregon ballot initiative to amend the state constitution to create the right to farm, ranch, hunt, fish and harvest resources has progressed another step toward making the November 2028 ballot.

The Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division received a certified ballot title for Initiative Petition 25 from the attorney general Sept. 25, which reads as: “Amends Constitution: Creates right to hunt, fish, trap, farm, ranch, and harvest resources; limits regulation of right.”

Electors have until Oct. 9 to petition the Oregon Supreme Court for review of the title, but chief petitioner Kari Goodheart has indicated she will not file an appeal.

“The certified summary reads that the measure’s effect on current law is unclear,” petitioners said, but noted that Goodheart “will not spend the campaign’s limited resources litigating a title that still leaves voters with the impression that the legal effect of a constitutional right is a mystery.”

Supporters of the initiative, which is coined the Freedom Amendment, are encouraged to donate and volunteer at oregonfreedomamendment.org.
