NRCS announces 10-meter RAP datasets

Kentucky bluegrass is one of several invasive cool-season grasses that have dramatically impacted rangelands in the northern Great Plains

The USDA Agricultural Research Service has expanded the Rangeland Analysis Platform (RAP) with a new 10-meter resolution vegetation cover dataset, a major upgrade from the previous 30-meter scale.

Using high-resolution Sentinel satellites, RAP now provides more accurate estimates and maps additional species, including invasive annual grasses, sagebrush and pinyon-juniper trees. The update also introduces canopy gap data, which shows the spaces between vegetation. With this advancement, rangeland managers and landowners can access Rangelands.app to explore vegetation types, monitor production trends and support land management decisions with greater precision.
