NM port will reopen to cattle trade on Oct. 26

USDA

The USDA is set to reopen the Columbus, NM, port of entry to cattle imports on Oct. 26.

Also on Oct. 26, USDA will resume the importation of equines from Mexico via the Santa Teresa, NM, port of entry.

If conditions continue to support safe trade, the next port scheduled to reopen to cattle imports will be Nogales, AZ, on Nov. 30.

“It was great to be in Columbus today as our phased reopening of southern livestock ports continues, with strict safeguards in place to protect American livestock,” said USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins in an X post. “We will continue using every tool at our disposal to keep New World screwworm OUT of the United States and protect the livelihoods of our American ranchers.”
