Nigeria is now open to a wider range of U.S. beef and pork products.
According to the USDA Export Library, red meat products can be exported to Nigeria unless they are specifically excluded, such as beef or pork offal, or smoked, dried and cured beef and pork products.
The U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) called the move an important breakthrough for a market that has the sixth largest population in the world.
“There are certainly challenges that must be overcome, and it will take some time to gain a foothold in the Nigerian retail and foodservice sectors,” said USMEF CEO and President Dan Halstrom. “But the first step in developing a new market is to secure meaningful access.”
