North Dakota is making $2 million available to help livestock producers secure water as worsening drought dries up stock dams and raises water-quality concerns.
Gov. Kelly Armstrong (R), Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and the State Water Commission approved activation of the Drought Disaster Livestock Water Supply Project Assistance Program. Producers can receive up to 65% of eligible costs, capped at $10,000 per project for as many as three projects. Eligible improvements include wells, pipelines, pasture taps and rural water connections.
Assistance is available in counties experiencing severe drought or worse, as well as adjacent counties and Tribal nations.
The Agriculture Department also activated its Hay Hotline for producers seeking hay, pasture or hay land. Producers can call 701-328-5110 on weekdays.
