The National Park Service is beginning a new General Management Plan for the Point Reyes National Seashore. The plan will address all lands currently under agricultural permits. Six different alternative plans are presented. These plans include anything from allowing 20-year permit renewals to removing ranching and dairy farming entirely from the region. The plans are geared towards the management of the tule elk. Elk management options presented range from complete elimination to expansion of the herd. Comments will be accepted through Nov. 15. There will be two open house meetings in the interim; one held Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 5-7 p.m. in the West Marin School Gym of Point Reyes Station, CA, and the other held on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito, CA. Full descriptions of the plans and comments can be submitted online at parkplanning.nps.gov/poregmpa. Comments can also be submitted by mail. Address comments to GMP Amendment c/o Superintendent, Point Reyes National Seashore, 1 Bear Valley Road, Point Reyes Station, CA 94956.
