Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced in early September that the government would invest 700 million pesos (about $38 million) into boosting meat production in the states of Coahuila, Sonora and Durango.
“This includes the delivery of bovine bulls, a support fund for fattening, and Comprehensive Production Centers for the highest-quality beef for the domestic market and for export,” Sheinbaum Pardo said in a news release translated from Spanish.
The move comes following the U.S. closing the border to cattle imports due to the threat of New World screwworm.
