Local Food Act introduced

On Oct. 4, Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME-1) introduced H.R. 3941, the Local FARMS Act. Reps. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE-1) and Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY-18) cosponsored the bill. The bill self-describes as seeking to improve food security and production of food commodities in the areas they are consumed, as well as a funding effort for new or small farmers. The bill was immediately referred to both the House Agriculture Committee and the Education and the Workforce Committee.
