On Thursday, Aug. 9, the Western Governors’ Association joined nine other groups of state officials in writing a letter to congressional leadership voicing concern over what they call the current effort to “diminish states’ authority to manage water quality within their boundaries under Section 401 of the federal Clean Water Act.”
The letter is addressed to Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Charles Schumer (D-NY), and Reps. Paul Ryan (R-WI-01) and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-12). It urges them to “reject any legislative or administrative effort that would diminish, impair or subordinate states’ ability to manage or protect water quality within their boundaries.”
