The Agricultural Transportation Working Group, a coalition made up of several dozen industry groups, recently wrote to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in response to a request for comments on the supply chain.
The coalition includes groups such as the American Farm Bureau Federation, American Sheep Industry Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and United States Cattlemen’s Association.
In their comments, the coalition wrote several suggestions to ensure resiliency of the food and agricultural supply chain. Some of the concerns included labor availability, climate policy impacts, strengthening transportation policy and infrastructure, container ship logistical issues, investing in inland waterway transportation systems, and strengthening rail and motor carrier transportation.
“We look forward to working with you to support U.S. agriculture’s adoption of resilient, diverse, and secure supply chain practices,” the coalition concluded.
