The Department of the Interior has announced up to $43.5 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to fund small water storage projects in the West to create new water sources and improve water management flexibility.
Additionally, over $55 million from the Inflation Reduction Act and annual appropriations will support drought resilience projects.
These projects will enhance water reliability through infrastructure upgrades, aquifer recharge, water recycling, and domestic supply initiatives, benefiting Tribes and disadvantaged communities while addressing the impacts of drought and climate change, the department said.
The Interior Department announced over $46.2 million in grants to conserve or restore 91,425 acres of wetlands and upland habitats for birds in 17 states. These grants, matched by $99.1 million in partner funds, were made through the North American Wetlands Conservation Act.
Additionally, $11.7 million was approved for habitat conservation across seven national wildlife refuges, enhancing opportunities for outdoor recreation.
