The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing regulatory amendments to certain compliance provisions and test procedures for heavy-duty vehicles.

The amendments would impact model years 2027 and later for heavy-duty highway engines.

EPA proposes changes to the regulatory useful life periods and emission-related warranty periods, along with adding clarity to regulatory compliance provisions. The agency is also proposing to make nonconformance penalties available to manufacturers of medium heavy-duty engines and heavy heavy-duty engines.

EPA in addition proposes to replace the requirement for engine derates and vehicle speed reductions with audible and/or visible notifications for newly manufactured diesel-fueled highway engines and vehicles (light-duty and medium-duty vehicles and heavy-duty engines) and nonroad engines and equipment.
