The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has opened a public comment period for a draft environmental impact statement for the federally threatened Mojave desert tortoise in California.
“This proposal would focus mitigation within conservation areas, create a more consistent approach rather than working on a case-by-case basis, and allow more staff time for on-the ground conservation work for the desert tortoise,” said Peter Sanzenbacher of the Palm Springs Fish and Wildlife Office.
