The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has opened a public comment period for a draft environmental impact statement for the federally threatened Mojave desert tortoise in California.

“This proposal would focus mitigation within conservation areas, create a more consistent approach rather than working on a case-by-case basis, and allow more staff time for on-the ground conservation work for the desert tortoise,” said Peter Sanzenbacher of the Palm Springs Fish and Wildlife Office.

To view the plan and submit comments, visit www.regulations.gov and search for Docket No. FWS-R8-ES-2023-0084. Comments will be accepted until Dec. 10.
