A total of 26 organizations representing Colorado’s agricultural and livestock producers submitted a petition with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Commission to delay wolf introductions until livestock depredations are addressed.

CPW announced several weeks earlier that it planned to introduce more wolves this coming winter after sourcing wolves from Canada. Petitioners said 24 confirmed livestock deaths have occurred since wolves were introduced in the state and that CPW has insufficiently addressed the conflicts. The petition requests a clear definition of “chronic depredation,” proactive development of non-lethal measures, vulnerability site assessments, the development of a rapid response team and increased local collaboration efforts.

CPW also recently announced it planned to capture and relocate an uncollared gray wolf believed to be the fifth member of the Copper Creek Pack, which was relocated in September following chronic depredations.
