Effective Aug. 1, new rules for Canada’s beef check-off collection will take effect in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan to improve consistency and fairness across provinces.
Under the revised system, the check-off rate applied to cattle sales will be based on the seller’s home province, regardless of where the sale occurs. This ensures that producers’ contributions continue to support programs in their own province, even when selling cattle elsewhere. The change applies to all interprovincial sales, including auction markets, dealers and direct farm transactions. Remittance procedures will need to be adjusted, especially for auction markets and processors.
Producers and stakeholders are encouraged to review the new requirements, with resources available at tinyurl.com/6pbrfrw9.
